It’s weird how even if you didn’t loose any loved ones during 9/11 you still remember where you were on that day. 10 years ago I was at work in Columbia, Md when I heard on the radio that a plane had flown into one of the Twin Towers. Moments later … another. Shortly after, attacks on the Pentagon in DC. My job let us go home early that day because many had family and friends that they hadn’t heard from. Phone lines were crazy. You couldn’t call folks for hours and you had NO idea what was going on. For days we watching as they recovered the survivors and the dead. The images are still vivid in my mind and tears still form at the thought.
So today nothing was different. As I sat in my NY studio listening to the names of the victims called I cried. I heard the pain in the young teen’s voice as she read the names and then of her own father. I had to switch the station. I could bare NO more. When I did, this commercial aired.
Amazing right! Children singing make me weep anyways. Maybe it’s just to cuteness in their voice. Or the innocence they still possess that we somehow we loose as adults. But to be able to take one of my fav Hip Hop songs and turn it into such an amazing moment captured via video is something our generation has to cherish.
Although today is very somber, and we’ll spend all day thinking and remembered the tragic events. We also need to remember that we are Americans. No matter of the wars, or the attacks on our nation we will live on. Through our words, our music, our art, our fashion, and all that we are!
Be safe out there and remember to LIVE!
