After five years of growing my natural hair, I began to obsess over length retention and hair growth! I hated this crazy natural hair obsession, so I decided to get my shiny shears and create a new style that reflected who I am as a woman.
Despite the week before, I discouraged a coworker from big chopping again, I found myself at the same crossroad and decided that I am sick of following the natural hair path of BCing, growing my fro out, and sticking to styles that showed off my length.
As I began to chop off my hair, into a tapered style, I truly began to feel like the woman I felt like inside. Experiencing this epiphany, inspired me to create this post for all you beautiful readies who may be in a natural hair rut like I was.
At times we as naturals can be extremely obsessed with showing off our length with certain styles. When you find yourself bored, take the time out to play with your shrinkage, you will be amazed at how your natural curl length accentuates your face.
If you are not concerned about length, dare to be different and cut your hair into a tapered fro or bob. Have fun with different shapes and styles that you can create with a pair of shears.
When in doubt honey, grab that hair pick! Lightly, and I mean lightly, spritz your hair with water so you will not incur breakage from picking your hair out. When our natural hair is in this state it can be easily sculpted into out styles and updos for any occasion.
Instead of just wearing that pineapple to bed, rock it outside for a chic, stylish do! Grab a pair of large earrings and a scarf and be on your way!
Break boredom with a bit of safe coloring! Use temporary hair sprays to create a unique colored style to break the monotony your natural hair color can cause. With no color commitment you can create as many styles, without damaging your beautiful natural tresses, as you like.
Break out those flexi rods and perm rods you use to use on your relaxed hair! When twist out and braid out curls are not making the cut, set your hair with these rods to create beautiful, full curls that are uniquely your own.
Not a big fan of styling your own hair? Simply twist or plait your hair and throw on a curly wig that looks just like natural hair! You will get more compliments than you think, it even doubles as a protective hair style.
Combat bored and bad hair days with a cute hat that compliments your face shape and natural curls! Throw on a bold lip and your hat and you will instantly look all made up.
Rock your bad hair days! As weird and crazy as it sounds, bad hair days create the best lazy styles that look like you did them on purpose.
If you want a temporary fix for your natural hair, create faux chunky twists with this beautiful style! Wear them up, down, in scarves, with headbands, you will love how diverse your styles will be.
Another way to remedy the boredom of your hair would be to take those neck scarves and wear them on your head! You can be Erykah Badu chic or rebellious like Rosie the Riveter!
How are you beauties embracing your natural tresses?
