I often think back to that young girl I met a few weeks ago. She reminded me so much of myself. Curious but still a little shy. Confident but still desiring permission to be awesome. Catherine (pictured above) is one of the teenagers from the JDRF 2015 Children’s Congress Delegates that I styled during Marshalls Children’s Conference Confidence Workshop and Styling Session.
The entire day was all about harnessing their confidence and enhancing their sense of style—which is what Marshalls is all about. Little did I know Catherine didn’t need any help. She just needed a little push to believe she was fly.
I asked Catherine one simple question. What would she like to wear more of that she doesn’t already own in her closet? She said prints. Told y’all, she’s just like me!
So we tried on every print there was in her size, from dresses to palazzo pants to maxi dresses. We ended up going for a short printed tee and some lace white shorts. I wanted to make sure she had pieces that she could intermix with things she already had in her closet.
And although I am bragging about Catherine, the rest of the kids looks pretty amazing too. I think our mission to discover their newfound confidence and show off their impeccably styled Marshalls outfit was a huge success. Now they’re ready to speak about type 1 diabetes in front of Congress this week (July 13th – 15th)!
