How many of you beauties purchase cosmetics from the drugstores? I will be the first to say that I do, and I know that many of you do too. Yeah, I order online and shop at Sephora, Ulta and at the beauty counters but some of my favorite goodies come from the drugstore. As much as I love getting cosmetics from the drugstore, I have to admit it can be a bit of a headache at times.
Unlike places like Ulta, Sephora and beauty counters, when you shop for cosmetics at the drugstore there are no samples or experts to give you direction, you are on your own. Many times, especially if buy foundation, it can take a quite a few annoying purchases to get it right (thank God that places like Walgreen’s allow returns). What seems to be a match in the store can prove to be a total mistake at home. For all of you beauties that feel my pain, I have great news! COVERGIRL has created an app that is designed to take hustle out of shopping for cosmetics.
COVERGIRL has launched a new high-tech makeup app called BeautyU. This app is designed to be more intimate to the beauty needs of women. With this more intimate design, the app is able to personalize a woman’s shopping experience based on her unique desires and facial features. What’s so cool about the BeautyU app is that you have the ability to try the products virtually before you buy them.
Now I don’t know about you beauties but this is the answer to at least one of my prayers to the Beatface Gawds!
I know that over the last few months, I have shared several different beauty apps with you. Most of them have been pretty good and a step in the right direction but I must say that this one has something that others don’t have… just yet. The BeautyU app is designed with a face scan technology that reads the users facial features. This scan allows the app to make all of its recommendations more accurately.
Who me? Of course I tried it out, I wouldn’t be talking about it if I hadn’t! Honestly, the app does exactly what it says. My only issue is that I am not sold on the accuracy in regards to the complexions of African-American users. The choices for brown girls are limited to medium, dark and very dark; and when I was scanned, it said that I was very dark (and clearly, I am not).
Hopefully COVERGIRL will catch this tea and fix that for us.
Although the colors were a little off, overall it is a pretty good app and I am positive there will be plenty of updates since the app is still new. I plan to play with it a lot more because it did prove to be helpful in recommending lip colors and bronzer that I purchased today (as if I need either).
In today’s Black Girl Magic, the app was also designed in partnership with students from Girls Who Code. Like, duh! That automatically makes this app beyond amazing ma’am. Check out a cute behind the scenes video to see the girls who code behind COVERGIRL’s BeautyU app!
So tell me beauties, have you checked out COVERGIRL’s new BeautyU app, if so chime in? Will you be giving it a try? It’s available and ready for use in the Apple Store now so go try it out and tell me what you think.
